Grand Slam Event 4: NEW YORK

The 4th and final regatta of the Grand slam has drawn to an end.

We were stoked to have two regattas back to back at the same venue and in the same boats to continue to build on the progress we had made and all of the learning from the week prior. Day 1 we came in full of confidence and rather aggressively acquiring a number of penalties in the pre starts which made the first Round Robin quite a challenge. On day 2 we battled some close races, and we were stoked to come away with 8 wins and only 1 loss, therefore winning the 2nd Round Robin and qualifying from both Round Robins in 2nd place.

We then went on to race Cole Tappers Aussie team in the quarter finals, losing out to them 2,1 in tricky, shifty conditions.

While it wasn’t quite the ending to the regatta we were hoping for, we are happy to have placed 5th at the Thompson Cup. Meaning that 3 of our 4 events were all top 5 finishes.

A massive thank you to our coach Reuben Corbett for joining us and helping us to accelerate our learning.

We’re currently en route home, and looking forward to jumping back into the Elliott 7s and put the last month of learnings into practice. ✈️

Thank you to all the organisers, staff and volunteers at @seawanhaka_sailing and the whole Grand Slam.

And of course a massive thank you to the @rnzys , @mustoaustralia and all those that helped us fundraise to make this trip a possibility.

An extra special thanks to all those that have sent us messages of support! 💕

Stay tuned! More to come soon! ⛵️
